THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD

The Adventures of Robin Hood was compulsory viewing at Saturday tea-time in the late 1950s. Here are a few pictures and facts from the series

The title role was played by (Irishman) Richard Greene. He also played Robin in the film version.

Robin with the first actress to play Marian (Bernadette O'Farrell) and Alexander Gauge as Friar Tuck.

Archery contests were always being held in these days, it seemed.

The first Sheriff of Nottingham was Alan Wheatley. He was later replaced by John Arnatt (who also played the Sheriff in a 1960's film featuring Barrie Ingham as Robin)

Robin with the second Maid Marian (Patricia Driscoll). Patricia also did the Monday instalment of "Watch With Mother", called 'Picture Book'.

Little John was played by a Scotsman, actor Archie Duncan.

Another interesting fact about the series. The Sheriff of Nottingham was the principal 'baddie'. If the producers wanted another, he was always played by either Patrick Troughton or Leo McKern.
